Democrats are pushing to ensure that teachers stay disarmed in New York schools.

The legislation, which would guarantee that teachers cannot shoot back if under attack, is sponsored by Sen. Todd Kaminsky, D-Long Island.

According to New York Upstate, Kaminsky claims that the push to arm teachers is simply “a distraction from urgently needed, common sense gun safety measures.”

Other measures being pushed by NY Democrats include on ban on undetectable plastic guns. Such guns have been federally banned since 1988, but Democrats want a state ban too.

Democrats also want to create a tax-funded “gun violence” research. The research center would serve to study firearms and recommend new gun controls for state leaders to push.

On January 25, 2019, Breitbart News reported that the other gun control measures being pushed by Kaminsky’s colleagues include a 30-day waiting period on background check completion for firearm purchases and a red flag law allowing for firearm confiscation.
