A group of Good Samaritans organized a sneaker drive to help a school with less fortunate students, including homeless, free-lunch, and foster care students.
The random act of kindness began when Danielle Jones, also known as “Coach Buckets,” recalled a conversation she had about a student, KCRA reported.
“I look at his feet, and he’s wearing slippers. He didn’t have sneakers,” Jones recalled.
Tom Tran, a basketball director with the NorCal Dynasty AAU basketball program, and Hill Moua, who works with the Sneaker Giveaway Project, heard Jones’ story and decided to do something about it.
Within days, they collected more than 100 pairs of sneakers and socks and surprised the students with the items during the school day.
“This is crazy. I can’t believe this. It’s so cool how people would donate all this to us,” student Jordan Salvo said.
“It feels awesome. I’m so overjoyed right now. I know these kids work so hard and some parents may not be able to afford to do this,” Jones said.
Tran also posted his reaction on Facebook.
“A day I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. This is not about me, will always be about the kids. Thank You to all our NCD Family and friends for making this a special day for all these kids,” he wrote in part.
