ESPN Apologizes for 'Wandai Wrection' Chyron Gaffe

This week, ESPN, a network that is increasingly criticizing athletes for not being politically correct, had a graphic on screen during a telecast of a Little League World Series game that mistakenly said that a Japanese player’s favorite singer was, “Wandai Wrection.”

The “singer”–or band–in question was reportedly the group, “One Direction,” which was the Japanese player’s favorite group.

ESPN released the following statement on the incident:

“We apologized on air during the game telecast and also personally apologized to the team and player after the game.”
