Texas Senator Ted Cruz thought the Texas Tech Red Raiders were about to win Monday’s NCAA championship game against University of Virginia, and he prematurely took to Twitter to celebrate. But, only minutes later, Texas Tech lost in a stunning overtime reversal and Twitter users went after Cruz for jinxing Tech.
Sitting in the stands during the game, Cruz was excited enough by what he seemed to think was a won game that he tweeted out that the Red Raiders were leading by one point with only 35 seconds to go.
35 seconds. ONE point LEAD. GO RED RAIDERS!!! #1 Defense. pic.twitter.com/S5XBefCsk1

But, before those seconds counted down, the Virginia Cavaliers came roaring back and eventually won the title game in overtime 85-77.
The amazing last minute rally gave Virginia the first title win in its history. And it gave Ted Cruz yet another sports millstone to hang around his neck as twitter users went after the Republican for his premature tweet, USA Today reported.
