Obama First Date Movie ‘Southside With You’ Gets Stood Up at Box Office

Sony’s Screen Gems micro-budget horror thriller Don’t Breathe finally unseated Suicide Squad for a first-place finish at the box office this weekend as Obama first date biopic Southside With You failed to set hearts aflutter in limited release and Roberto Duran boxing drama Hands of Stone fared decently ahead of its Labor Day weekend expansion.

Box Office: ‘Ben-Hur’ Bombs, ‘Suicide Squad’ Stays on Top

MGM/Paramount’s pricey Ben-Hur update failed to gain any traction at the box office this weekend, taking in $4.1 million Friday on its way to an estimated $11 million three-day total from 3,084 locations while Warners’ Suicide Squad and Sony/Annapurna’s Sausage Party looked to retain the top two spots for the second straight weekend.
