Hayward: Reparations Are the Doomsday Weapon of Divisive Racial Politics

Reparations are gaining steam again, as the House of Representatives has scheduled the first hearing on the subject in over a decade for Wednesday, June 19. The hearing is supposed to consider the “continuing impact” of slavery, which was abolished over 150 years ago, and ponder the concept of “restorative justice,” which means penalizing people who had nothing to do with it.

House to Hold Hearing on Slavery Reparations

A House Judiciary subcommittee will hold hearings on reparations next Wednesday, marking the first time in more than a decade that the House will discuss potentially compensating the descendants of slaves.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) held a press conference on Dec. 13 to announce that she will be chairing a new Congressional Jazz Caucus. To help accomplish this, on Dec. 12 Jackson Lee introduced H.R. 4626, "to preserve knowledge and promote education about jazz in the United States and abroad."

‘Case for Reparations’ Author Praises Warren: ‘I Think She Means It’

Ta-Nehisi Coates, the author of “The Case for Reparations,” praised Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) in the New Yorker on Monday as a 2020 Democrat who is not just giving “lip service on reparations,” revealing that Warren had asked him about five years ago to have a conversation with her about his reparations piece.
