America’s war veterans are among the most unappreciated members of society. Countless films and documentaries put out by Hollywood and the mainstream media fail to accurately depict their true grit and the horrors they have faced to battle evil the world.

Amongst the finest and most noble traditions of the American people is the commemoration of Memorial Day. Originally known as “Decoration Day,” the modern Memorial Day holiday originates primarily from the last days of the American Civil War, the bloodiest and most traumatic conflict in American history. It is a monument to the Americans who fell in the battle of Santiago de Cuba, the decisive event that secured Cuban independence from Spain.

There’s an amazing effort each year at this time that encourages runners and walkers to dedicate the miles they put in on Memorial Day to American heroes who paid the ultimate price for our freedom and liberty.
