A violent threat against Evergreen State College has shut down the campus, and some faculty are allegedly blaming professor Bret Weinstein, who has been the target of a controversial protest effort.

According to a local news account, a “direct threat” made against Evergreen State College has shut down the campus since Thursday morning. The threat was reportedly made by an unidentified individual from an anonymous phone number who claimed that he or she would shoot “communist scumbags” at the college. According to progressive biology Professor Bret Weinstein, faculty and administrators have allegedly blamed him for the threat.
KIRO 7, a CBS-affiliate in Seattle, Washington, reported that a search of the campus revealed no threat, but that the FBI is diligently searching for the anonymous individual who phoned in the message.
Evergreen State College spokesperson Zach Powers said the threat of violence was the only impetus for the shutdown.
On Twitter, Weinstein condemned his colleagues for allegedly blaming him for the shutdown, suggesting that they needed to take a program in critical thinking.
