Taya Kyle, the widow of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, was a classy and elegant presence on the red carpet Sunday evening at the Academy Awards. As Breitbart Texas reported, Kyle and her sister Ashley traveled to California at the invitation of Warner Brothers to represent her husband, whose memoir American Sniper was the basis for the film of the same name. American Sniper has been nominated for several awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Bradley Cooper, who played Chris Kyle.

Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were killed on February 2, 2013, by Eddie Ray Routh, a troubled veteran who they were trying to help. Routh has admitted to the killings, but has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and his trial is expected to wrap up next week.

Taya Kyle has attended every day of the trial’s proceedings so far, and posted an emotional message on her Facebook page Sunday morning, sharing her stress during the trial but also how she was grateful that Warner Brothers was flying her out to Hollywood and even providing a dress and accessories for the evening.

“I didn’t think I had the energy to show up at the Oscars, let alone be presentable,” wrote Kyle. “So, I find myself in a surreal position…like Cinderella who scrubs the floors but has a fairy Godmother (Warner Brothers) who got me on a plane and had a dress and jewelry and even the shoes and spanx waiting for me.”

Kyle’s flowing green strapless dress won accolades on social media for its classy, elegant look, and Kyle herself was a similarly classy and elegant presence in her red carpet interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts.

“I’m so grateful for everything that went into this movie,” said Kyle. “I wanted to be here to represent Chris, obviously, and it’s not the ideal time to do that, but I still wanted to embrace everything that he should be here to do with me,” she added, choking up a little, as she held her husband’s dog tags tight in her hand.

“He absolutely got it right,” Kyle said about Cooper’s portrayal of her husband in the film.

“It’s an honor to be here too,” she continued. “I appreciate everybody bringing me out here and dressing me up, it’s an experience, for sure.”

When Roberts asked her about what her husband would think, if he could have been there and seen how the film had done so well at the box office and been nominated for multiple awards, Kyle said, “He would be absolutely blown away, and he would be his usual humble self, laugh at himself, probably make fun of it in some ways, but deep down, he would be really, really happy that so much healing is happening for couples who are healing with this movie, and opening a dialogue.”

“It’s something he would be proud of,” Kyle concluded

Kyle will be headed back to Texas on a red eye flight to attend the trial proceedings in Stephenville on Monday. Both the prosecution and defense have rested their cases and will be presenting closing arguments on Monday. Breitbart Texas will continue to follow this story.
