McALLEN, Texas—A previously deported convicted rapist from Mexico was recently caught sneaking illegally into the Texas border city of Pharr. This marks the second time in less than a week that Border Patrol agents captured a previously deported rapist in South Texas.
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 23-year-old Mauricio Toto Xolo last Friday in Pharr. After holding him over the weekend, they took him Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos, who formally charged him with one count of illegal re-entry and ordered him held without bond.
At the time of his arrest, Xolo told agents that he had sneaked over the river on Thursday, just one day before his arrest. While the agents interviewed and investigated him, they learned about his criminal past.
Xolo spent 12 months in prison following a 2010 rape conviction and was then deported on November 1, 2011 through Laredo, Texas, court records obtained by Breitbart Texas revealed.
The court hearing for Xolo comes just one day after Breitbart Texas reported on the arrest of 22-year-old Joel Silva Duran, a convicted child rapist recently caught near the border city of Roma just months after having been deported.
After the arrest, the agents learned that Silva Duran had been deported four months earlier, on April 3, 2015, through Brownsville, Texas. The deportation came just one day after he had been sentenced to 10 years of probation at a state court in Rio Grande City on the charge of sexual assault of a child.
State officials have not yet announced if they will seek to send Duran back to prison for violating the terms of his probation.
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has repeatedly discussed situations where the lack of a secure border has led to the continued crossing of illegal immigrants by criminals who have already been deported.
