'Breitbart News Sunday' on SXM 125: New Media Victory over Coca-Cola, Amnesty, Sochi 2014

On Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m EST, Breitbart News Executive Chairman and host Stephen K. Bannon will discuss an important new media victory over Coca-Cola regarding the company’s “America the Beautiful” Super Bowl ad and the important fight within the GOP over amnesty legislation. 

Derrick Morgan, Vice President, Domestic & Economic Policy, at the Heritage Foundation, will be on the show to discuss amnesty and the future of the Republican party. He will also speak about the ramifications of potential immigration reform legislation. 

Breitbart’s Washington Editor Jonathan Strong and investigative reporter Matthew Boyle will be on the show to discuss their reporting on the GOP’s leadership’s efforts to pass amnesty legislation and whether House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) comments this week indicating he would not go forward on immigration until House Republicans could trust President Barack Obama to enforce immigration laws was a head fake. Boehner’s critics have said he may have made the remarks to buy him some time to secure the votes of House Republicans who may be on the fence regarding amnesty.

Dr. Susan Berry will discuss the latest developments on the efforts to ram through Common Core. She will also discuss a group in France that is fighting to save traditional families. 

Breitbart’s Michael Patrick Leahy and Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow will discuss yet another new media victory in the culture wars. After conservatives were outraged by Coca-Cola’s “America the Beautiful” Super Bowl ad, the company relented and included “E Pluribus Unum” in their new ad that aired during the opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympics. Breitbart.com–and Leahy in particular–led the charge against the ad. Leahy was even mocked by the left-wing Colbert Report. Immediately after the ad aired during the Super Bowl, Leahy wrote:

The old “America the Beautiful” is beautiful because of the blessings God had heaped on it and because its government offers “liberty in law,” while aspiring for togetherness. Coca Cola’s America is beautiful because of the differences in its people. When the company used such an iconic song, one often sung in churches on the 4th of July that represents the old “E Pluribus Unum” view of how American society is integrated, to push multiculturalism down our throats, it’s no wonder conservatives were outraged.

Though left-wing cultural elites who believe in separatism and the “Salad Bowl” theory of assimilation mocked new media’s criticism of the ad, Coca-Cola’s concession proves that an overwhelming number of Americans still believe in the “melting pot” theory of assimilation. America, contrary to what Al Gore may think, has always been, is, and hopefully will always be about “E Pluribus Unum” and not “E Unum Pluribus.” 

Craig Shirley, one of the most respected historians of Ronald Reagan and the campaigns that made him a conservative icon and president of the United States, told Breitbart News that Coca-Cola “realized they made a mistake, but showed intelligence by quickly responding to valid conservative criticisms by adding the ‘E Pluribus Unum’ patriotic disclaimer at the front of the ad.”

“The storm of opposition to Coke’s infamously tasteless ad shows that a vast majority of Americans still see this country as a melting pot and not a gaggle of entitled special interest groups,” Shirley said. 

This is hardly the first time that new media have won a victory in the culture wars. Last December, after relentless pressure from Breitbart News, ESPN reversed course and aired ad the network initially rejected because it found the mention of “Jesus” to be “problematic.” 

Breitbart’s Frances Martel will discuss the latest developments in the controversies surrounding New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie and whether the GOP establishment’s “Wonder Boy” is in a political free fall. 

Breitbart’s AWR Hawkins will discuss the cultural and political messaging of the opening ceremony at the Sochi Games. Hawkins wrote about NBC’s complicity in calling Communism a “pivotal experiment” during the opening ceremony.

Breitbart’s Mary Chastain will be on the program to discuss many of the compelling Olympians and story lines that are emerging from the Games in addition to what to look for in the weeks ahead. Breitbart Sports Editor Dan Flynn will also discuss some key themes from the Games.
