'Chicagoland': Ratings Collapse for CNN's Pro-Rahm Emanuel Doc

Deadline reports that CNN’s “Chicagoland” got killed in the ratings. Despite an appearance from First Lady Michelle Obama, the finale of the eight part series collapsed to a new low for CNN’s pro-Rahm Emanuel documentary.

“Chicagoland” managed to grab only 325,000 total viewers and 132,000 in the 25-54 demo. In the same timeslot, Fox drew 1.22 million total viewers and 244, demo viewers. MSNBC came in second with 648,000 total viewers and 22,000 demo viewers.

CNN chief Jeff Zucker is not only dealing with the fact that his network was caught red-handed airing an eight-hour pro-Rahm campaign commercial, but on top of that,  the failure of the series is more evidence that Zucker’s master plan to pull CNN out of the ratings tank is not working.

Zucker wants to redefine and broaden the definition of news through programming like “Chicagoland.” But “Chicagoland” got lower ratings compared to last year when CNN was still doing news-news. CNN lost 29% total viewers and 19% demo viewers.
