Unions 2012: The Rap Sheet So Far

As Lachlan Markey of Heritage Foundation reports, unions have violated federal law a myriad of times this last year – and these are merely the tip of the iceberg, if President Obama’s incestuous relationship with the unions is any indicator. Markey reports on the federal rap sheet of the unions, which includes embezzlement, blackmail, bribery, racketeering, and witness tampering, among others. Among the twelve specific cases Markey cites:

  • Family members Anthony Fazio Sr., Anthony Fazio Jr., and nephew John Fazio, were sentenced to federal time after getting involved in racketeering, money laundering, and witness tampering as leaders of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 348-S. According to the Manhattan US attorney, “For decades, the Fazios sold out their union members, and got rich off the backs of the working men and women they were supposed to represent.”
  • Ronald Witt, former business manager of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 450, went to the pen for embezzling union cash to cover the cost of his vacations and home upkeep in Texas.
  • Spreading Christmas cheer, Edward Aulisi, former member of the International Longshoreman Association, conspired with his dad, a former local president and mob boss, to extort payments from local members around the Yuletide.

That’s just a smattering. Union corruption runs deep – and open corruption isn’t the worst of it. The corrupt association between Big Labor and its bought-and-paid-for lackeys in the Democratic Party continues to destroy America’s financial future.
