Archie is dead, and comic book fans may not recognize Thor the next time they see him.
Or rather, the next time they see her.
Marvel Comics used the ABC show The View Tuesday to announce it had changed the gender of its Norse God hero.
The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg helped spread the news.
Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he’s no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That’s right. Thor is a woman!
On screen, Thor is played by actor Chris Hemsworth in two successful solo outings as well as The Avengers and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. No word yet on whether the female Thor will replace Hemsworth’s character in subsequent movies.
The news comes on the heels of another comic book bombshell. The grown up version of Archie, the venerable character known to generations of readers, died while jumping in front of a bullet aimed at a gay politician promoting gun control.
