Iraq's Al Qaeda Affiliate Part of Core Group in Benghazi Attack

Reports indicate Al Qaeda fighters from Iraq were among those who attacked the Benghazi consulate on Sept 11.

According to the report, U.S. intelligence believes Al Qaeda members from Iraq were not only participants in the attack but actually part of the “core group that attacked the diplomatic mission.” This comes on top of earlier intelligence reports indicating Al Qaeda fighters from Iraq have infiltrated the Syrian opposition over the last few months.

Taken together, the Iraqi involvement in Syria and Benghazi paints a picture of a once-weakened Al Qaeda affiliate in Iraq re-emerging. And according to reports, that re-emergence began when Obama pulled troops out of Iraq earlier in his term.
