Morsi Flees Presidential Palace as Egyptian Protesters Close In

Following news that protesters had broken through police lines en route to Mohamed Morsi’s presidential palace in Egypt, reports are now breaking that Morsi has fled the palace.

Reports indicate that thousands of protesters have closed in on the palace, many of whom are chanting “freedom or we die.”

These protests are the most recent backlash to Morsi’s Nov. 22 power grab, when he granted himself near unlimited powers and excluded his office from judicial oversight.

As protesters neared the palace, and unnamed presidential source told reporters, “the president has left the building.”

No one knows where Morsi has fled, but opposition coalition spokesman Hussein Abdel Ghany says, “Our marches are against tyranny and the void constitutional decree and we won’t retract our position until our demands are met.”
