Report: Iranian Officials Admit Providing Palestinians with Missiles

Reports indicate that Iranian officials and members of Islamic Jihad have been talking freely about missiles that were provided to Palestinian militants at different times over approximately the last 12 months. The missiles they supplied were allegedly among those fired at Israel during Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012.

Speaking on February 8, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khomeini’s advisor Ali Akbar Velayati said, “We saw how the Palestinians managed to drag three million Israelis to bomb shelters and to target Tel Aviv with the extremely simply [Fajr] missiles given them by Iran.”

Speaking on February 11, Khomeini’s representative in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said, “What solved Gaza’s problems are the Fajr-5 missiles that Iran gave as a gift [to the Palestinians].”

On November 17, as the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians raged, the daily Kayhan claimed, “The launch of missiles like the Fajr-5 [at Israel] by ‘the Islamic Resistance’ [in Gaza] shows that Iran supports the Islamic resistance front and completely disregards the artificial conflict between Shi’ites and Sunnis.”

Around this same time, on November 20, Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah said, “The weapons that are fighting the Israeli aggression and arrogance in Palestine come mainly from Iran, as the whole world knows. This is no secret.”
