Deputy CIA Director Who Signed Off on Benghazi Talking Points Resigns

Deputy CIA Director Mike Morell resigned from the agency on Wednesday and will join President Obama’s Intelligence Advisory Board.

Morell signed off on the now-infamous Benghazi talking points–the version without references to “jihadi activity” in and around the Benghazi area.

Hot Air quoted Fox News as saying Morell put out a statement claiming he needed more time with his family, but news later came out that he will be serving on the president’s board.

Morrell’s replacement will be Avril D. Haines–a lawyer to the White House since 2010. She previously served in the State Department as an “assistant legal adviser for treaty affairs” at the State Department. The Washington Post reports that she “has never worked inside the intelligence agency.”

Obama nominated Haines to the position of legal counsel for the State Department just two months ago.
