Detroit Mom Uses 'Assault Rifle' to Ward Off Intruder with Handgun

On February 17, a Detroit mother used an “assault rifle” to protect her “two small children” by repelling a home intruder armed with a handgun.

According to WXYZ ABC 7, the mother retrieved the rifle when she heard the door to her house being kicked in. She said, “I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house. They said no you don’t so I shot off the first round.”

All three intruders initially fled after the homeowner fired that shot. Then one of the teens turned, picked up a handgun he had dropped, and “tried to get back inside the house a second time.” At that point, the homeowner opened fire again, and the third intruder fled for good.

Inside the house, the mother said her young daughter was saying, “Oh no mommy, I don’t want them to take my piggy bank or my toys.”
