Reagan-Founded PAC: Mitch McConnell Next Out, Should Follow John Boehner Resignation

The political action committee founded by Ronald Reagan called for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to resign as House Speaker John Boehner did last Friday, so a constitutional conservative can take McConnell’s place leading the Senate.

Citizens for the Republic, founded by Reagan in 1977, is a conservative grassroots organization that made its announcement for McConnell to follow Boehner’s lead on Tuesday.

“The American people gave Republicans a majority in the Senate last year, but they’ve proven to be completely incompetent in stopping Obama’s radical left-wing agenda. This remarkable lack of action has mystified the American people and resulted in frustration and anger with Washington politicians,” stated Executive Director of Citizens for the Republic Diana Banister in a press release.

Banister added, “The lack of leadership along with the back-room deals and caving to special interests must stop. It is time for Mr. McConnell to go the way of Mr. Boehner. America needs new, fresh conservative leadership that will take on the challenges of government and put the needs of the American people first.”

Citizens for the Republic’s call for McConnell to step down comes after a top Republican made the same suggestion.

“Mitch is a good and honorable guy, but the base is leaving our party,” Chariman of the Louisiana GOP Roger Villere, also affiliated with the Republican National Committee, recently told the Washington Times.

“I’ve worked for 12 years as chairman to build this party, and I just don’t want to see it all go down the drain because the [leaders] aren’t willing to fight for what we believe… Our base is demanding we do something or they’re going to leave us,” said Villare.
