Unfortunate Event: Lemony Snicket and Wife Donate $1 Million to Planned Parenthood

Children’s author Daniel Handler — also known as Lemony Snicket — announced on Twitter this week that he and his wife are donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood, stating that their “good fortune should be shared with noble causes.”

Handler is the author of the well-known children’s novels A Series of Unfortunate Events that have sold millions of copies.

His wife, illustrator Lisa Brown, told BuzzFeed that she and Handler have supported Planned Parenthood for years.

“It’s a great organization that has provided top-quality health care for countless women and families in our lives,” she said. “This year, Planned Parenthood has gone through a series of unfortunate events, and it felt right to make our support more public and more dramatic.”

Brown is likely referring to the series of investigative videos that have exposed Planned Parenthood’s unfortunate practice of harvesting the body parts of aborted babies for sale on the open market.

Though Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards has persistently vilified the videos as “deceptively edited” and “heavily doctored,” just moments before she testified before the House Oversight Committee, it was announced that a forensic analysis had shown that the videos are indeed authentic.

As Fox News reported, cybersecurity and forensic analysis company Coalfire Systems examined the 10 “full-footage videos” produced by Center for Medical Progress.

“The Coalfire forensic analysis removes any doubt that the full length undercover videos released by Center for Medical Progress are authentic and have not been manipulated,” Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Casey Mattox said in a statement.

“Analysts scrutinized every second of video recorded during the investigation and released by CMP to date and found only bathroom breaks and other non-pertinent footage had been removed,” he continued. “Planned Parenthood can no longer hide behind a smokescreen of false accusations and should now answer for what appear to be the very real crimes revealed by the CMP investigation.”
