Rudy Giuliani — former mayor of New York City, NY, and current legal counsel for President Donald Trump — connected the murder rate in Chicago, IL, to Democratic dominance in the Windy City.
Giuliani published the following tweet on Sunday night:
Chicago murders are direct result of one party Democratic rule for decades. Policing genius Jerry McCarthy can do for Chicago what I did for NYC. He was one of the architects of Compstat. Slashed homicides over 70%. Tens of thousands of lives saved.

Giuliani also encouraged Chicagoans to support Garry McCarthy, the city’s former police superintendent and now candidate challenging Mayor Rahm Emanuel — though he misspelled McCarthy’s first name.

Emanuel fired McCarthy in 2015.
Emanuel regularly advocates for greater restrictions on Second Amendment rights as a method to reduce violent crime.
Chicago saw at least 40 people shot — including four fatalities — on Sunday. At least 57 people were shot between Friday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
The FBI described Chicago’s “extreme gun violence” as an “epidemic” in a report published in May of 2017.
A criminological analysis — based on FBI crime statistics — of the nation’s 30 largest cities ranks Chicago as having 2017’s fourth-highest murder rate at 24.7 per 100,000; behind Baltimore (57.2) Detroit (40.8), and Memphis (28.4).
Chicago saw 650 homicides in 2017, down from 768 in 2016.
Of the Chicago City Council’s 50 aldermen, 48 are Democrats, one is Republican, and one is Independent.
