CNN: ‘Some GOP Candidates Unhinged Over Gay Marriage’

CNN’s “New Day” characterized some GOP responses to the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage as “unhinged” and mocked an argument against redefining love as “something that is purely sentimental and emotional” by GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on Monday.

The segment on Huckabee’s remarks began with a chryon reading “Some GOP candidates unhinged over gay marriage.” The show then played a clip of Huckabee saying, “One of the mistakes we’ve even over the course of the same-sex marriage debate is that marriage is all about just love and feeling and sentimentality, and redefinition of love as to something that is purely sentimental and emotional has been destructive. And I think it will prove to be destructive in every definition of marriage, be it heterosexual or homosexual or polygamy or wherever the marriage redefinition ends up taking us over the course of the next few years.”

Co-host Alisyn Camerota asked about Huckabee “bringing in polygamy and saying that marriage is really not supposed to be about love.” Later, fellow co-host John Berman joked, “I just want to have the discussion with my wife, ‘Look, Mike Huckabee says marriages aren’t about love and sentimentality. We’ve had it all wrong, it’s not about the love and romance.”
