Mnuchin: 3.2% GDP Growth Attributable to Trump Policies — Strength Will Continue Through 2019

During an interview that aired Monday on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin applauded President Donald Trump’s economic policies, which he credited for last week’s strong gross domestic product number.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the American economy expanded by 3.2%.

“It’s a result of the president’s economic program,” Mnuchin said. “This was tax cuts, tax reform, regulatory relief and trade deals. And not only was it a great number, but the first quarter is normally 1% lower than usual, and the government shutdown probably cost 30 basis points. So this is really like a four-and-a-half percent unadjusted quarter.”

Mnuchin said he anticipated growth to continue through 2019 despite slowdowns around the globe.

“I think the president’s economic program will continue to show strength throughout this year,” he continued. “And the U.S. is really the bright spot throughout the world. We see Europe slowing. We see China slowing. We still tremendous amounts of money coming in the U.S. economy and I think it looks very clear for the next year.”
