Jim Jordan: ‘States Are Reopening — Why Won’t Congress?’

As states are beginning to slowly reopen amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Wednesday’s “America’s Newsroom” on Fox News Channel questioned why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is yet to bring back Congress to do the work of the American people.

Jordan urged Pelosi to reopen Congress, saying if coronavirus task forces across the country can meet, then so can Congress.

“States are reopening, why won’t Congress?” Jordan asked. “I mean, look: farmers are planting crops, truckers are moving goods, grocers are stocking shelves and frontline health care workers have never stopped working. They’ve been working every single day throughout this crisis, but somehow the U.S. Congress can’t come back to work? … There’s task force meetings all over the country, but the task force that is supposed to meet and deal with the big issues that confront our nation is the United States Congress, so let’s get back in session.”

He continued, “We can do it. I don’t know why we’re not back doing the work of the American people. It seems like that’s exactly where we should be but unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi won’t call us back.”

Instead of another stimulus package, Jordan said the best thing the country can do is have Americans go back to work immediately.

“That’s the best stimulus, that’s the best bailout, that’s the best Phase 4 — go back to work,” he added.
