A plastic surgeon was charged Friday for reportedly illegally dispensing controlled substances, aggravated sexual abuse, and sex trafficking in Toledo, Ohio.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took Dr. Manish Gupta, 49, into custody that afternoon and booked him into the Lucas County Corrections Center, according to ABC 13.

Investigators said Gupta arranged to have sex with an adult female escort while he was in Los Angeles, California, for a plastic surgery convention in 2016, adding that the victim claimed he drugged her to the point of unconsciousness, then raped her.

The report continued:

She did not file a complaint with police, but did go to the Rape Treatment Center and had a rape kit performed on her. Afterward, the woman found multiple other women had complained about someone matching his name or description on an online service sex workers use to make others aware of dangerous individuals. Both the woman, and many of the complaints said they were drugged, raped and that the incidents were recorded without their permission.

Gupta is the owner of Artisan Cosmetic Surgery located at 7634 Central Avenue in Toledo. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon and medical doctor licensed by the state of Ohio and Michigan.

February 12, a complaint was made to the State of Ohio Medical Board which alleged that Gupta had been raping women for years.

Prior to the incident in 2016, an employee at Gupta’s office uncovered recordings on SD cards that showed him having sex with “motionless women, items used for sex, and narcotics,” ABC 13 reported.

Based on that information, the employee gave the cards to another person who alerted the FBI.

Friday, a federal search warrant was executed for Gupta’s home, vehicle, and both of his Lucas County offices. Agents found sex toys, camera equipment, SD cards, and a substantial amount of controlled substances inside his private office.
