Democratic presidential candidate Gov. Martin O’Malley said that “Our economy isn’t money, it’s people,” at a candidate forum in South Carolina Friday hosted by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

O’Malley’s 8:06 PM sound bite was in response to a question about what Democrats have been doing wrong in South Carolina in recent elections.

“A strong middle class is the cause of economic growth,” O’Malley added after his querulous quote about the economy being people.

“Secretary Clinton got there just last week. I was there a year ago,” Martin O’Malley said, referring to opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline.
