Police have arrested a gynecologist, Doctor Basharat Hussain, for sexual battery against a patient in Kissimmee, Florida, reports reveal.

The 42-year-old owner of Wellness & Primary Care in Kissimmee was charged with sexual battery this week after a patient went to police to complain about unethical actions he committed over several visits.

Officials charge that, on two occasions, Hussain performed a vaginal exam of a patient without an appointment and even without gloves. Also during the last exam, he made inappropriate comments to the woman.

Deputies say the patient told them that she received three pelvic exams by the doctor, but only one was scheduled, while the others were spur-of-the-moment when she visited the office for other reasons.

The patient said that she twice went to the doctor’s offices to have him provide a doctor’s note for her job, but each time she went for that purpose, the doctor instigated an impromptu exam, both times without using gloves.

“He was very friendly. He asked her to come inside. The purpose of that visit was to get the note for work purposes. While she was in his office, he started talking to her and questioning her about a previous visit. She told him that she was very uncomfortable and he also made some inappropriate statements to her while she was in his office,” said Twis Lizasuain, a spokeswoman for the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department.

The woman charged that, during the last impromptu exam, Hussain inappropriately asked if she was getting excited. The patient told police that she told him no and that she was feeling uncomfortable instead.

After the last unwanted exam and the inappropriate comments, she went to police to file a complaint.

As Orlando’s CBS affiliate reports, Hussain was arrested on Wednesday and was given a court appearance on Thursday.

Police are also asking the community if any other patients have had experiences like this with the doctor. Anyone with information should contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222.
