A sophomore from a North Carolina high school was arrested for claiming he made a bomb and then announcing in a classroom that he was going to blow up his school. Once apprehended, the teen also claimed he wanted to join the terror group ISIS.
After white teenager Paul Warner, 16, made his bomb threat in a classroom on the morning of January 8, Northwest Cabarrus High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina was evacuated, local police reported.
Officials told WSOC-TV in Charlotte that the teen also claimed he tried to join ISIS and that he was found carrying two knives when detained.
On Friday Warner was charged with making a false bomb threat and for possession of weapons on school grounds.
By Monday the teen pleaded not guilty to the charges.
There were additional charges for the teenager, though. On Monday authorities also charged Warner on two counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Likely it is this sexual charge that precipitated his bomb threat outburst.
Warner is now being held in the Cabarrus County Jail on a $200,000 secured bond.
