MSNBC host Joe Scarborough warned Democrats on Thursday that nobody in their party is tougher than House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who is trying to regain her Speakership.
Scarborough said on Morning Joe that if Democrats do not have somebody who “knows the ins and outs” of the House, “anarchy breaks out very quickly” like in the last couple of years of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s tenure.
The Morning Joe host said Pelosi is better than “just about anyone” at being competent, “tough,” and “knowing how to keep [her] caucus together” during the most difficult times.
Other Republicans like former Republican National Committee officials and Never Trump operatives have also been praising Pelosi’s effectiveness, which Democrats will need as they figure out how to best investigate Trump while also being for various issues that will make the party appeal to more Americans.
Pelosi could actually get help from some House Republicans, especially those in the bipartisan Problem Solvers caucus, in her quest to regain her Speakership. Some House Republicans have indicated that they would be willing to either vote for Pelosi on the House floor or vote “present” to lessen the number of votes Pelosi would need. In exchange, Members in the Problem Solvers caucus reportedly want Pelosi to agree to reform some rules to make it easier for legislation with bipartisan support to get on the floor for votes.
Having had a whole lot to do with the RNC 2010 “Fire Pelosi” campaign, Democrats would be crazy to do just that. Republicans don’t like Pelosi precisely because of her effectiveness.

Democrats should be wary of throwing away one of the most disciplined speakers in recent memory. Pick a speaker who is over their head and the House turns into a shit storm fast.
One more thing: Republicans ran against Pelosi this year and had their worst loss since Watergate. https://t.co/KxV9nBdm1i— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) November 15, 2018
Why are some Democrats playing into GOP hands with this talk of dumping Nancy Pelosi. She just led them to victory with a disciplined, tough effort and she was a far more effective speaker than any of the Republican Speakers in the last 20 years (or more).

Pelosi’s allies are reportedly making the case that with all of the investigations of President Trump and his administration that House Democrats are planning, now is not the time to nominate an amateur who can potentially make Democrats look like bumbling fools.
