A girl who police say is as young as eight years old had been caught on surveillance footage scurrying off with a package left outside a Maryland home, according to a video released Friday.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office released a video Friday of the shocking theft, which took place on November 30 in Bel Air, Maryland, and showed the child running across a front yard to the house’s door before making off with the package containing a pair of boots.
“We always warn you about package Grinches this time of year, but it’s hard to believe that a Grinch decided to use Cindy Lou Who this year to steal packages!” the sheriff’s office wrote in the Facebook post.
Vallan Hardison, the person who ordered the pair of boots, told WBMF she was “shocked” to see a girl that young on her home’s surveillance footage stealing the package.
“People steal, but to see someone that small doing something like that is just unbelievable,” Hardison said.
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said it is likely that “a parent or older person” asked her to steal the package.
“A parent or older person is directing them to commit the theft which is pretty disturbing,” Gahler told WBFF.
Detectives are asking those who can identify the girl to contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
