A Harris County, Texas, woman who was home alone shot and killed a masked invasion suspect on Tuesday afternoon.

The Houston Chronicle reported that the woman armed herself with a pistol after hearing the sound of glass breaking, then hid in a closet. KPRC noted that the woman initially thought she had heard a gunshot, then found glass on the floor after investigating.

As she hid in the closet, an intrusion suspect, who was allegedly wearing a mask and gloves, opened the door to the closet and the woman shot him once, killing him.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the actions taken by the woman, saying, “She protected herself and we’re glad that she’s alive.”

Of the deceased suspect he said, “Somebody that’s breaking into somebody’s home, it’s very risky for them to do that.”
