From Sting to Beak: New Orelans Officially Becomes the Pelicans

With the close of the season, a new nickname has come to New Orleans. No longer bearing the name “Hornets” from their days in Charlotte, the basketball franchise has officially adopted the more city-appropriate “Pelicans” name.

The name change has been made official on the team’s website, social media accounts, and staff email addresses. The changes have been in the works since the announcement of the transition was made on January 24th.

Colors for the franchise now match with the color of the New Orleans flag, and the symbols including the Pelican and fleur-de-lis are consistent with the city. With the Hornets nickname now officially available, Charlotte may drop the Bobcats moniker and pick up the name of the original Charlotte franchise.
