JaMarcus Russell Set to Work Out for the Bears

JaMarcus Russell, who many consider to be one of the biggest draft busts of all-time appears to be on the verge of a much discussed second chance. The Chicago Bears are set to give the former LSU star a workout, and the Baltimore Ravens are reportedly interested as well.

The former #1 overall by the Oakland Raiders washed out of the league in 2009 after consistently underperforming and a general nonchalant attitude about improvement.

However, after working out with former quarterback Jeff Garcia, a former teammate of Russell’s in Oakland, and has reportedly gotten his weight down to below 270lbs. Previously, Russell had ballooned to an offensive tackle-like 300+ pounds, a significant reason the talented passer has been out of the league.

Russell’s workout with the Bears is scheduled to take place this week, and it is possible he could get a contract soon after. If he lands a spot on the roster, this could be an ideal spot to get his career back on track as starting quarterback Jay Cutler, whose tenure in Chicago has been controversial, will become a free agent next season.
