Report: Clippers Agree to Deal with Celtics for Doc Rivers

The Los Angeles Clippers and the Boston Celtics have reportedly agreed to a deal that will make Doc Rivers the next coach of the Clippers, pending league approval.

According to ESPN, “the Clippers will sign Rivers to a three-year, $21 million contract,” and “will send a 2015 first-round pick as compensation to the Celtics.”

With Rivers as the new coach, the Clippers are now likely going to re-sign Chris Paul, who was hesitant about leaving Los Angeles but reportedly wanted a coach he respected more than Vinny Del Negro, whose contract the Clippers did not renew after the Grizzlies eliminated Los Angeles from the Western Conference playoffs.

According to reports, the Clippers were ready to hire Byron Scott or Brian Shaw if they could not reach a deal with the Celtics by Monday.
