Report: Nets Interested in Jason Collins

The Brooklyn Nets are interested in signing Jason Collins, who came out of the closet more than two months ago. If the Nets sign Collins, he would be celebrated as the first openly-gay player–who came out to the media and was acknowledged–that would play in a major American professional sport.

After trading for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and hiring Jason Kidd to be their coach, the Nets, according to Yahoo! Sports, are looking to fill out their roster by potentially adding Collins to strengthen their defense and rebounding.

According to reports, Garnett was frustrated when Boston traded Collins to Washington because he felt the Celtics needed his minutes for rebounding and defense and may be playing a role in getting Brooklyn to sign Collins.
