Johnny Football Pleads Guilty, Closing one Chapter in a Dramatic Offseason

It would be easy to argue that Johnny Manziel has had one of the rougher offseasons in recent memory. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner simply cannot seem to stay out of the limelight with repeated improprieties that continue to haunt the otherwise talented signal caller.

Coming off a highly scrutinized weekend where Manziel left his duties at the Manning Passing Academy early, the Texas A&M quarterback plead guilty Monday to charges of failing to properly identify himself following a fight in 2012.

Manziel will pay a fine and was sentenced to time already served for the incident that nearly derailed his historic 2012 season before a letter from coach Kevin Sumlin got the quarterback out of a suspension.

Nicknamed “Johnny Football,” Manziel is the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy. However, the quarterback has had an offseason to forget with many questioning his maturity and ability to handle to scrutiny. Most prominently, the Aggie tweeted his eagerness to leave College Station before eventually apologizing.

Manziel will put this offseason behind him and launch his sophomore campaign and Heisman defense on August 31 against Rice. The Texas A&M Aggies figure to be national title contenders, particularly if they can once again defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide. An SEC member, the Aggies will try to bring the SEC conference its 8th straight national title, joining Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn in the streak.
