Diamondbacks Fire GM

The Arizona Diamondbacks have fired general manager Kevin Towers. The GM had been with the club for four years.

“Over the past three months, I have had the opportunity to evaluate all aspects of our baseball operations and have decided to restructure our staff in order to improve our decision-making process,” Diamondbacks top baseball man Tony La Russa said. “I have the utmost respect for Kevin and a friendship with him that dates back many years, which has allowed me to appreciate his talents and experience.”

La Russa said that the club has offered Towers a different position.

At 59-81, the Diamondbacks own the third worst record in baseball. Only Colorado’s ineptitude keeps Arizona out of last place in the NL West.
