Ref Says Colin Kaepernick Used Slur, Victim Says He Didn't

Colin Kaepernick stumbled and fumbled his way to a 28-20 49ers loss against the Bears last week. Did the quarterback’s four turnovers lead him to call an opposing player an ugly racial slur?

The league fined Kaepernick $11,000 for his ugly use of the English language. “Nice pass,” Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston allegedly told Kaepernick after one of his interceptions. The refs claim that Kaepernick, a mixed-race adoptee brought up in a white family, responded by using the “N” word.

Kaepernick denies. So, too, does Houston. The 49ers quarterback seeks to overturn the fine.

“The player that I supposedly said something to has been quoted saying that I didn’t say anything,” Kaepernick reasons, “and I don’t know him, so it’s not like he would have a reason to just randomly stick up for me.”
