Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson recently told a church audience that he and his girlfriend, pop singer Ciara, have agreed to carry on their relationship “Jesus’ way” and refrain from sex until they decide to marry.

Appearing at a Q&A at The Rock church in San Diego, California on July 5, Wilson was asked about his relationship with pop singer Ciara.

Wilson started out noting that Ciara was a “15 out of 10” and went on to say that the first time he met her he felt that God said to him, “I need you to lead her.”

“And I was like, ‘Really, right now?'” Wilson added. “And he goes, ‘No, I want you and need you to lead her.’ So I told her right then and there, ‘What would you do if we took all of that extra stuff off the table and just did it Jesus’ way?’…And she was relieved.”

He also admitted that refraining from sex wasn’t easy, especially with such a beautiful woman. “I ain’t gonna lie to y’all now, I need y’all to pray for us. I know y’all seen her on the screen.”

Wilson spoke on a range of topics during his interview at The Rock church. He even called himself a “bully” who was sent to the principal’s office repeatedly when he was young. “I was a terrible kid growing up,” he said, then added, “I was a troublemaker growing up.”

But when he was fourteen he had a dream that Jesus “walked into my room,” and said, “I am preparing you.” This, Wilson said, is when he began to feel that he should really dedicate his life to Jesus. He also said that in sixth grade he “used to go to church to see this one good looking girl” but after the dream his feeling about church changed.

Wilson said he had “two parents” who were “hardworking people” who “really, really preached education.”

He also said that he was sure he could compete strongly in two separate sports and did so for several years in school. “I believe if anybody can do it, I could,” he said about simultaneously playing baseball and football professionally.

The player also warned parents against allowing their children to get too caught up in video games. “Get your kids outside,” he insisted. “There’s so many kids playing video games.”

Wilson is well known as a serious and active Christian and even appeared in a movie on the subject titled The Making of a Champion. The minister conducting the interview, Miles McPherson, played defensive back for the San Diego Chargers during the 1980s.

“I had a dream one night I was at … football camp … my parents were supposed to pick me up on Sunday to go to church,” Wilson said in the 2013 movie. “I had a dream that my dad passed away and that Jesus came into the room and he was just knocking on my door saying, ‘Hey you need to find out more about me.'”

Wilson also said, “I think that just that moment of when I realized that dreams are really real, because my dad ended up passing away six years later. I think that kind of got me through a lot of adversity.”
