Jimmy Savile's family rocked by scandal

LONDON, Oct. 27 (UPI) —

Relatives of Jimmy Savile said they were floored by child-molestation allegations against the late British television star.

Savile’s family said in a written statement their sorrow at Savile’s death couldn’t compare to the anguish experienced by the families of the alleged victims.

"We recognize that even our own despair and sadness does not compare to that felt by the victims," Savile’s nephew. Roger Foster, said in the statement.

Savile, who died Oct. 29, 2011, has come under investigation by Scotland Yard over allegations he repeatedly sexually abused minors while a star disc jockey and television host for the BBC.

The Daily Telegraph said Saturday as many as 300 potential victims have turned up, and child-protection advocates said tips on other potential incidents continued to pour in.

"Our feelings are in turmoil as we await the next turn of events," Foster’s statement said. "How could the person we thought we knew and loved do such a thing?"
