Man Who Murdered Hayward Police Officer Booked into Jail

Mark Anthony Estrada, 21, the man arrested in the Wednesday shooting death of Hayward police Sgt. Scott Lunger after a traffic stop, has been booked into Santa Rita Jail, according to KRON 4. Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said Estrada was taken into custody at roughly 9 p.m. Thursday and will be arraigned Friday at 2 p.m.

LAPD Shoots Homeless Man

On Sunday, an apparently homeless man was shot and killed by Los Angeles police as he resisted attempts to subdue him. LAPD spokesman Sgt. Barry Montgomery said around noon the police arrived in response to a robbery call on 911. Montgomery said that LAPD officers used a Taser, although it was unclear whether the man, whose street nickname was “Africa,” was struck by the Taser.
