Former US Senator George McGovern Dies: Family

Former US senator and Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern, who lost to Republican Richard Nixon in 1972, died early Sunday at the age of 90, his family announced.

The family said in a statement that the liberal standard-bearer died at about 5:15 am (1015 GMT) at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, surrounded by family and life-long friends.

The past several months have seen the price of gold slump even as the Fed and other central banks have accelerated their massive expansion of paper money. Gold is off about 20% so far this year with silver down almost 30%.
