Former Sen. Scott Brown, who is running against incumbent Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), is up with a new television advertisement blasting Shaheen and President Barack Obama for weakness on ISIS.
Brown hammers “radical Islamic terrorists” and the insecure border and immigration system through which they could and reportedly plan to enter the U.S., and he argues on screen that Shaheen and Obama “seem confused about the nature of the threat.”
Brown, looking straight into the camera, says as he narrates the advertisement:
Anyone who turns on the TV these days knows we face challenges to our way of life. Radical Islamic terrorists are threatening to cause the collapse of our country. President Obama and Sen. Shaheen seem confused about the nature of the threat. Not me. I want to secure the border, keep out the people who will do us harm, and restore America’s leadership in the world. I’m Scott Brown, and I approved this message because protecting the homeland is the first step to making America strong again.
In a press release accompanying the ad, Brown’s campaign notes that Shaheen’s support for amnesty for illegal aliens means the border has stayed insecure. The press release from Brown’s campaign reads:
Shaheen has voted twice against border security and for amnesty, and as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee she has been a supporter of President Obama’s weak and ineffective foreign policy, voting with him 99% of the time. Earlier this year, Shaheen made the statement that terrorist organizations like the radical jihadist group Boko Haram had nothing to do with Islam, which was greeted with widespread criticism.
Shaheen’s campaign fired back in a comment in the Boston Globe. “While Scott Brown is peddling the politics of fear,” Harrell Kirstein, Shaheen’s spokesman, told the Globe. “Senator Shaheen is working to defeat and destroy ISIS, supporting air strikes, voting for military action, and working to crack down on the terrorists’ financing to disrupt their operations.”
The new Brown ad comes as President Obama launched airstrikes against ISIS bases in Syria without congressional authorization late Monday evening. Some senior Republicans in Congress have publicly backed the U.S. air attacks, and the effort involves a coalition of nations in the region as well.
Brown is set to deliver what his campaign calls “a major foreign policy speech” on Wednesday at noon at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm.
