New Poll: Michigan Battleground For U.S. Senate, GOP Candidate Within Margin Of Error

A new poll out of Michigan’s U.S. Senate race shows that GOP candidate Terri Lynn Land is within the margin of error against Democratic nominee Rep. Gary Peters (D-MI).

The poll, conducted by Wenzel Strategies from Oct. 6 through Oct. 7, shows Land at 44.3 percent and Peters at 46.9 percent. The survey of 615 likely voters in Michigan has a margin of error of 3.93 percent, meaning Peters’ 2.6 percent lead is within the margin of error.

A total of 52.4 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of Peters and 37.3 percent viewed him unfavorably, while 50.9 percent viewed Land favorably and 45.9 percent viewed her unfavorably.

The poll is good news for Land, who saw a slip in the polls along with pretty much all other Republicans nationwide after President Barack Obama launched airstrikes against Syria in late September–a slip that had fueled speculation, especially with the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) shifting money around by pulling $850,000 in planned television ads off the air there, that Republicans had given up on the Wolverine State.

It also comes amid scores of brutal attacks from the institutional left, Peters and his allies against Land. Peters, who is backed by environmentalist leftwing groups many of which are funded by billionaire hedge fund manager Tom Steyer, and his allies attacked Land over the environment for weeks.

But after a series of fact checks by local media–and aggressive investigative reporting by conservative media into Peters’ hypocrisy with various investments he has in energy companies–the liberal groups seem to have retreated.

“Our data shows no sign of the environmental groups up on Michigan TV this week,” Patrick Ruffini of GOP-aligned digital media tracking firm Engage told Breitbart News. “NextGen has also withdrawn from Iowa and they are mainly focused on Colorado now. The Democratic groups running ads in the Senate race are the Peters campaign, the DSCC, and AFSCME.”

The Peters campaign, the state Democratic Party and its liberal allies in the state have also attacked Land recently for saying she’s a mom in some answers to questions from local media.

After Breitbart News broke that story, Land spokeswoman Heather Swift said via Twitter that it represented an “absolutely, disgustingly sexist, anti-mom” effort by Peters and his liberal supporters.

Land herself Tweeted that Peters has “gone too far” with this attack.
