Morgan Freeman: Obama 'Not America's First Black President'

Morgan Freeman, Oscar-winning actor, statesman and recipient of the Lincoln Medal of Honor, which is given to honor someone who embodies the values of Abraham Lincoln, has now pontificated that Barack Obama is not America’s first black president because his mother was white:

“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him … they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America. There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”

Yeah, that sounds like Old Abe, making the color of someone’s skin the primary factor in defining them.  Am I alone, or is it true that Lincoln fought a war precisely to eradicate stigmas associated with color? (And by the way, Morgan, I just got a memo from the Obama Administration to tell you to shut up. The Obama Administration rose to power by claiming Obama would be the first black president. You’re not calling them liars, are you? For goodness’ sake, if you delegitimize Obama’s race, you’re depriving them of the key issue they plan to exploit in their campaign.)

But Freeman wasn’t done lecturing from his pulpit:

“He (Obama) is being purposely, purposely thwarted by the Republican Party, who started out at the beginning of his tenure by saying, ‘We are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure that he’s only going to serve one term’. That means they will not cooperate with him on anything. So to say he’s ineffective is a misappropriation of the facts.”

Okay, Morgan.  Don’t let all the data on the economy fool you; Obama has been enormously effective — if you’re intending to savage the economy to prepare the way for a socialist economy.

The Lincoln Medal of Honor has also been given to Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, who has spent a lifetime after Auschwitz decrying the use of race as a means of hatred. For Freeman to focus on the color of Obama’s skin is a disservice to the award, as well as a thorn in the side for the plans of the Obama campaign.
