Nevada State Treasurer Dan Schwartz announced his campaign for governor on Tuesday, running as a Republican to replace term-limited Governor Brian Sandoval.

“I’ve done well as a State Treasurer and I’ve been a good businessman,” Schwartz said in an interview with Breitbart News after he announced his campaign.

He detailed his intent to fight special interests and work for the people of Nevada.

“We just have an establishment here that we elect people and the establishment pays them to get what they want,” he said.

He earned disdain from fellow Republicans in 2015 when he opposed Sandoval’s budget proposal, which included $1.1 billion in additional taxes and offered a simplified three-page budget instead.

Schwartz has vowed not to take money from lobbyists but will accept money from trade groups and individuals.

“I have a real problem taking money from lobbyists whose sole objective is serving special interests,” he said.

He signaled his commitment to deliver on bringing more jobs and opportunities into the state, but warned against foolishly funding companies that couldn’t sustain themselves.

He opposed the State of Nevada’s decision to give $335 million in tax breaks to  Chinese-backed electric automotive startup Faraday Future — a plan that went bankrupt before construction could start.

“We were concerned from day one that this was not a company that the state of Nevada should have been supporting,” Schwartz said after the project collapsed.

Schwartz said he supported president Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA and said he looked forward to Congress returning to the issue.

“Congress has basically ducked this responsibility for 10 years, and I think that if Trump can put some pressure on Congress to pass an immigration bill, then we wouldn’t be having all the conversations that are going on now,” he said.

Schwartz will likely face State Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who has yet to announce his campaign, and businessman Jared Fisher.
