A suspect who allegedly opened fire in a North Austin, Texas, parking lot Saturday afternoon died after a concealed carry permit holder returned fire.

The suspect was pronounced dead at 5:20 pm.

According to KXAN, 21-year-old Darwin Jimenez allegedly had words with a concealed permit holder as the permit holder pulled into an apartment parking lot on Mearns Meadow Blvd. CBS Austin reports that Jimenez was with a “group of men” when he began yelling at the permit holder.

Jimenez and the group allegedly followed as the permit holder parked. Jimenez and one other person then exited the vehicle and Jimenez allegedly opened fire as the permit holder exited his car.

The permit holder grabbed his gun and returned fire, killing Jimenez.

Police report that the permit holder and Jimenez did not know each other. The Travis County District Attorney’s Office is currently treating the permit holder’s actions as self-defense.
