A home invasion suspect died Monday afternoon after an alleged gunfight with a resident in southwest Atlanta, Georgia.

Fox 5 Atlanta reports that the resident was upstairs and heard strange noises at about 1:45 pm. He came downstairs to investigate and found the home invasion suspect, who had allegedly “broken in through the front door.”

Police report that the two men engaged in a gunfight at that point. The resident was wounded after the smoke cleared and the suspect was dead.

Atlanta Police Homicide Lt. Andrea Webster said the resident and suspect “had some sort of knowledge of each other,” so it “was not a random incident.”
