President Donald Trump vowed to defeat the Islamic State and the ongoing threat of radical Islamic terrorism in the Middle East and around the world.

“Today we deliver a message in one very unified voice to these forces of death and destruction. America and its allies will defeat you,” he said during a speech at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. “We will defeat them. We will defeat radical Islamic terrorism. And we will not allow it to take root in our country. Not going to allow it.”

Trump asserted that ISIS was currently waging a “campaign of genocide” that had to be stopped. He promised to make a “historic financial investment” in the Armed Forces during his visit at the SOCOM and CENTCOM special forces operations base in Florida on Monday.

The timing and place of Trump’s visit was significant, as President Barack Obama delivered his final national security speech in the same location. Obama’s speech was delivered on Dec. 6, 2016, in which he thanked the troops for “breaking the back of ISIL.”

About 300 men and women in fatigues greeted Trump with a standing ovation when he entered as he thanked them for serving their country.

“America stands in awe of your courage,” he said.

Trump also singled out the American military’s Special Forces for praise.

“SOCOM has dispatched its legendary warriors to the most secret, sensitive, and daring missions in defense of the United States of America,” he said. “No enemy stands a chance against our Special Force, not even a chance.”

Trump promised to deliver the Special Forces team “the finest equipment known to man” so that they could continue their fight.

“The proof that our nation has been blessed by God, look no further than the men and women of the United States military,” he said. “They are the greatest fighters and the greatest force of justice on the face of the earth, and that the world has ever known.”

Trump also recognized military families and spouses, pointing out that they “bravely shoulder the burdens of war” while their loved ones serve in battle.

“I want every military family in this country to know that our administration is at your service,” he said. “We stand with you 100 percent. We will protect those who protect us. And we will never, ever let you down.”
